Our
Story.

A bit of background into our practice.

For Dr. Ravi Busanelli, being a veterinarian has always been about more than medicine — it’s about trust, compassion, and building lasting relationships with pets and the people who love them. After years of working in busy clinics across Ontario and Michigan, he saw the need for something different: a space where care felt personal, where every pet was treated like family, and where clients felt truly heard.

That vision led to the opening of Simcoe Rossland Animal Hospital, and later, Main Street Markham — a practice he proudly built alongside his son, Dr. Lohit Busanelli. Together, they’ve created a clinic grounded in respect, empathy, and high-quality care, because they believe every pet deserves to be treated with the same love and attention they give their own.

Dr. Lohit Busanelli

Dr. Ravi Busanelli developed a passion for animals from an early age hanging around with his father who was a large animal vet. After deciding to follow in his father's footsteps, he graduated in 1994 from Veterinary College in Parbhani, Maharastra India. He then worked in a variety of practices for 13 years focusing on poultry, dairy cow and other food animal medicine, before immigrating to Canada. He completed Veterinary Skills Training and Enhancement Program (VSTEP) in 2009 from the University of Guelph. He has worked in reputable clinics such as Kingston Road Animal Hospital, Toronto South Animal Hospital, Detroit Animal Care Hospital, and Brimley–Lawrence Animal Clinic. Outside of work, he enjoys spending his spare time with his wife Swathi, and two kids Lohit, Likitha, their dog Moksha, and two cats Leo and Polar. He has a special interest and over a decade and a half of experience in soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and high quality spay and neuter services.

Dr. Lohit grew up around animals most of his life, coming from a family of Veterinarians, mainly taking inspiration from his father Dr. Ravi. He went to the University of Guelph starting in 2015 where he majored in Biomedical Sciences which further solidified his interest in Biology and Veterinary sciences. He began his studies at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts West Indies in 2018 and spent the next 3 years there. He then completed 1 year of clinical rotations at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in January of 2022 and graduated with his Veterinary degree. Dr. Lohit has a special interest in client education, soft tissue surgery, analgesia/pain management and high quality spay/neutering services.

Merrin Vickers Vet Tech

Veterinary Technician

Merrin

Hi, I’m Merrin! I’m a vet tech with a background in emergency medicine and special interests in anesthesia, surgery, pain management, diabetes, nutrition, and fear-free care. I have a BSc in Biochemistry and completed graduate work in microbiology (yes, beer yeast!). While pursuing vet school, I discovered my passion for the veterinary technician role and its impact on patient care.

Now, I’m also studying Naturopathic Medicine and will graduate in April 2026. When I’m not at the clinic in my signature pink scrubs (usually on the floor cuddling your pets!), I’m learning how to care for humans too. I’m so grateful to be part of your pet’s health journey and this incredible team. See you around!

Veterinary Assistant

Swetha

I’m an internationally trained veterinarian with a deep passion for working with animals. Currently, I’m working as a veterinary assistant, gaining practical experience and preparing for licensing exams to become a veterinarian in Canada. My journey so far has given me a strong foundation in veterinary medicine, and I’m excited to continue learning and growing in this field. I love being part of a team that helps animals feel better every day and find it incredibly rewarding to see them heal and thrive.

Clinic Manager

Swathi

Hi! I’m currently helping out as the clinic manager, and it’s been an exciting shift after spending the last 15 years working in finance. While this is my first time working in a veterinary setting, I’ve always loved animals—I grew up with a dog, and now have three pets of my own who keep things lively at home. One of the best parts of this role is getting to meet so many wonderful clients and their furry companions.

I hold both an undergraduate and master’s degree in Physics and Applied Technology. When I’m not at the clinic or spending time with my two kids and family, you’ll likely find me gardening, travelling, or curled up at home with my cats. Feel free to reach out to me anytime at swathibusanelli@gmail.com!

Veterinary Assistant

Rashnica

Hi Markham family, my name is Rashnica and I have been working with the MSM/SRAH staff as a VA. I have been indulged in the veterinary field since I was 15 years old. I was born and raised in Markham, so coming back here to support my roots and my love of animals has been great. I recently graduated with an honours life science co op degree at McMaster University and am hoping to go to vet school in the upcoming year.

Sam

Hi everyone, my name is Sam and I am veterinary student at the Ontario Veterinary College. I did my undergrad in Life Sciences and Psychology at Queen’s University in Kingston. originally, I planned to go to medical school, but during my undergrad I realized my true passion was working with animals—so I made the switch to veterinary medicine, and I haven’t looked back since. Outside of the clinic, I love spending time with my Great Pyrenees, Linus, and staying active through biking and running.
