Our
Story.

A bit of background into our practice.

For Dr. Ravi Busanelli, being a veterinarian has always been about more than medicine — it’s about trust, compassion, and building lasting relationships with pets and the people who love them. After years of working in busy clinics across Ontario and Michigan, he saw the need for something different: a space where care felt personal, where every pet was treated like family, and where clients felt truly heard.

That vision led to the opening of Simcoe Rossland Animal Hospital, and later, Main Street Markham — a practice he proudly built alongside his son, Dr. Lohit Busanelli. Together, they’ve created a clinic grounded in respect, empathy, and high-quality care, because they believe every pet deserves to be treated with the same love and attention they give their own.

Our Team.

Dr. Ravi Busanelli Veterinarian

Founder & Veterinarian

Dr. Ravi Busanelli

Dr. Ravi developed his passion for animals at a young age while accompanying his father, a large animal veterinarian, on farm visits. Following in his father’s footsteps, he graduated from the Veterinary College in Parbhani, Maharashtra, India, in 1994. Over the next 13 years, he gained extensive experience working in mixed animal practice, focusing on poultry, dairy, and other food animal medicine. After immigrating to Canada, Dr. Ravi completed the Veterinary Skills Training and Enhancement Program (VSTEP) at the University of Guelph in 2009.
He has since worked in several reputable clinics across the Greater Toronto Area, including Kingston Road Animal Hospital, Toronto South Animal Hospital, Detroit Animal Care Hospital, and Brimley–Lawrence Animal Clinic. With over 15 years of experience in small animal medicine, Dr. Ravi has a special interest in soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and high-quality spay and neuter services. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife Swathi, their children Lohit and Likitha, and their pets—dog Moksha and cats Newton and Polar

Dr. Lohit Busanelli Veterinarian

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Lohit Busanelli

Growing up in a family of veterinarians, Dr. Lohit has been surrounded by animals for as long as he can remember. Inspired by his father, Dr. Ravi, he pursued his passion for animal care by earning a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Guelph in 2019. He then attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts, West Indies, and completed his clinical rotations at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2022.
Dr. Lohit’s professional interests include client education, soft tissue surgery, analgesia and pain management, and high-quality spay/neuter services. He is passionate about building trust with pet owners through clear communication and compassionate care. When he’s not in the clinic, Dr. Lohit enjoys staying active, spending time with family, and hanging out with his dog Moksha and cat Larry.

Merrin Vickers Vet Tech

Registered Veterinary Technician

Merrin

Hi, I’m Merrin! I’m a Registered Veterinary Technician with a background in emergency medicine and special interests in anesthesia, surgery, pain management, diabetes, nutrition, and fear-free patient care. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and completed graduate research in microbiology (focusing on beer yeast—yes, really!).

During my studies and time in practice, I discovered my passion for the veterinary technician role and its essential impact on patient comfort, safety, and wellbeing. Alongside my work at the clinic, I’m also completing my Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree and will graduate in April 2026.

When I’m not in my signature pink scrubs (often on the floor cuddling your pets!), I’m learning more about integrative approaches to health and healing., or snuggling my cat Larry or playing with my dog Moksha. I’m so grateful to be part of your pet’s care team and this amazing Main Street Markham family.

Swathi

Hi! I’m Swathi, the Clinic Manager here at Main Street Markham Animal Clinic. Transitioning into this role has been an exciting new chapter after spending over 15 years working in finance. While this is my first time in a veterinary setting, I’ve always loved animals—I grew up with a dog and now share my home with three wonderful pets who keep life fun and full of energy.

I hold both an undergraduate and a master’s degree in Physics and Applied Technology. One of the best parts of this position is getting to meet our amazing clients and their furry companions every day. When I’m not at the clinic, I love spending time with my husband, our two kids, and our pets—or you’ll find me gardening, travelling, or curled up at home with my cats.

Feel free to reach out anytime at swathibusanelli@gmail.com
—I’m always happy to connect!

Veterinary Assistant

Sam

Hi everyone! My name is Sam, and I’m a veterinary student at the Ontario Veterinary College. I completed my undergraduate degree in Life Sciences and Psychology at Queen’s University in Kingston. Although I originally planned to attend medical school, I discovered my true passion for working with animals during my undergrad and made the switch to veterinary medicine—and I haven’t looked back since.

Outside of the clinic, I love spending time with my Great Pyrenees, Linus, and staying active through biking and running. I’m so grateful to be part of the Main Street Markham team, learning every day and helping provide the best care possible for our patients.
